Robot Build Day 1

11/16/2015

David K. and Vamshi M. began by building the chassis for our robot.  So exciting!

Emily S. almost finished building the sizing box for our robot, but it was thrown away by the janitorial staff!  Yikes.
A big thank you to David Berkley at Woodward, Inc. of Niles, IL for being our first corporate donors.  You are helping make our dreams reality!  Thank you so much.  Look at the graduated cylinder to track our fundraising progress!

Introductory STEM club post - Nov. 12, 2015

11/12/2015

We are embarking on two grand ventures:
TARC (Team American Rocketry Challenge) and FTC (FIRST Tech Challenge)

The video describing the FTC competition is shown below:
We have been successful in gaining the support of our administration.  Our principal, Anna Pavichevich, generously donated $1500 and that has been matched by IL FIRST.  We have also received a US FIRST Technology Transition Grant in the amount of $575.  A special thank you to Jonathan Weiland, Highland Park High School, for patiently answering all of my questions.

We are actively seeking generous contributions from corporate and individual sources.  We would love to come to talk to your organization about our plans to increase STEM participation at Amundsen through our club's activities.  Would you like to join us?

Here is our outreach flyer.  Please share it with your friends and colleagues.
We are very lucky to receive the support of George Thiruvathukal, PhD, Professor of Computer Science from Loyola University for assistance with the robotics team.  In addition, we are fortunate to have the assistance of Tom Pastrick, an avid rocketeer with a half century of expertise for the rocketry team.

On Wednesday, Josh Anders visited us as a IL FIRST representative and gave us a robot and programming demo (see the banner image).  Thanks, Josh.
