Today, Jansen K. and Wynter H. spent a combination of 6 hours after school to complete this task.  I am ecstatic about what these students have accompliished.

After the first meet, our team 14401 is in third place.  Our team 18593 is in thirteenth.  I'm so proud of them!

With a total of 14 current members, AHS Robotics now has two teams!  It's going to be a great year.  We're already off to a promising start.  We built the chassis and used the new Rev Expansion Hub to drive our robot.  See the video here.

Third Competition on Saturday, 1/7/17]]>Fri, 06 Jan 2017 21:58:35 GMThttp://www.maheshalur.net/roboticsteam/great-strides-over-winter-break-third-competition-on-saturday-1716Amy E., Harshil P., Syed K., and Yash P. sacrificed countless hours of their Winter Break to make our team's robot close to completely functional.  I am so impressed by the commitment made by these students.  Special thanks to Oscar Delgadillo, neighborhood programming volunteer, and Josh Anders, FTC mentor, whose contribution at this time have been invaluable.

Our robot has the following features:
  • Three motors that move the robot in all directions
  • A sweeper motor to collect the small balls from the playing surface
  • An elevator to raise the small balls
  • A dual motor ball thrower to launch the small balls into the center vortex
  • A button presser to press the beacon buttons in autonomous mode
  • A color sensor to detect the beacon color
  • An optical distance sensor to detect the white line on the playing surface
  • A cascading forklift to lift the capball and place it in the center vortex in the endgame

Here's a video of our lift, which finally lifted!  We've been talking about this lift for the last 3 months.

For those who are interested in attending, the third competition of our robotics season takes place at St. Patrick High School, 5900 W. Belmont Ave. at 1pm - 7pm on 1/7/17. The matches begin at 3:30pm.
